Where'd that horse building come from, and how highs the ceiling? Every building I see I ask that .. how highs that ceiling. Its a curse !

It is called a mare motel, basically open stalls with a roof. There are six stalls, three on either side of a central breezeway which is about 10 feet high. It also came in a kit.

Posted by: moonmagic Jan 24 2012, 11:46 AM Ron- Again thanks for the domekits web link. Went to their site thinking I would just give it a "quick look-see" and was there the better part of an hour. Of course, I now have ten bazillion questions...all which I am sure will be answered in due time...but that does'nt stop me with these first two..
(1) Will you use pier supports or a concrete pad? (a full pour or just a partial concrete pour?)
(2) If a wood floor, will there be a crawl space underneath?
RE: The observatory...will the dome rotate? How? Is that something they will help you engineer?
OK That's all for....NOW.mm

Posted by: Ron Walker Jan 24 2012, 02:37 PM Well it didn't storm like they said it should. I will try and accomplish something every day. A temporary fence for the pool cut off the corner where the planetarium will be.

Posted by: Ron Walker Jan 24 2012, 02:40 PM It is now easier to see the general layout with the final post the center of the dome. The next step is to grade the road and then level the building area.

Do to "soil conditions" I was required to do a separate foundation, stem, slab as follows. Answers: (2) Since this will be a full slab floor there will be no crawl space. There will be two 2.5 inch electrical conduits from the outside to the center of the dome for wiring. I might add another just for my piece of mind but not sure if that will cause "engineering" problems.

This will rotate on the Econodome ring (One Ring To Rule Them All).

Posted by: Ron Walker Jan 24 2012, 03:15 PM The pier will be made from some left over block that I have on a base that goes two feet into the ground, well below the six inch frost line, if that. The eight ft. sq. building will be built on two 4X6 treated skids. This will have a wood floor with a cut out for the pier to prevent vibration. This small "portable" building does not require a building permit, which is good, as engineering for it would cost more then the entire structure. huh.gif A conduit will be added underground to allow telescope control from the planetarium as well as video and digital feeds from the OB. I will probably set up a video projector in the planetarium and will certainly experiment with "half dome mirror" projection from the side of the dome.

Thought that said gare motel for a minute. I like that building! Sometime in a lighter moment, you should put sunglasses on a couple of those cacti. If you have time. It would be funny. Trust me. It would. Maybe.

Posted by: moonmagic Jan 25 2012, 04:31 PM Those are YOUR pictures of the Econodome right? You already have that on site? with ring?
Thanks for the answers.....
So the planetarium will open right into the inground acquarium so to speak?
Planetarium with pool...very nice indeed.
You have wasted no time on getting this started. ALL very exciting...
Until I can do better on my own, must continue to live through the accomplishment(s) of others. mm

Actually it is an ExploraDome, I can't get my dome makers right. Econodome is the big one for the planetarium. Yes, it is here, I was one of the first Exploradomes ordered in the southwest. It is ready to go once I get the base built. I have just been giving all my time to the planetarium project.
This entire planetarium forum came about when the first group of overzealous Exploradome affectinados were thrown off "Cloudy Nights" for some reason or another. I had asked about doing a planetarium thread over there but never had a response. At this site I was given a forum in about ten minutes. The rest is history.
Yes, if there is a supernova one can just jump into the pool.
I've wasted a lot of time trying to get this started, now I'm afraid not to move fast. More pictures coming very soon. Glad your enjoying this with me.

To set posts etc I can't get back on or even add myself as a new member with a new name for whatever reason. Oh well, I guess I just won't waste any time there. The sandy/rock soil is like concrete. I actually got an electric hammer to make my fence post holes and for underground piping runs. www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/demo-hammers/15-amp-120-volt-professional-breaker-hammer-kit-68147.html
