I think a line like, "Want a planetarium show for your group? Call 123-456-7890 for information." From that website I have no idea that you even offer shows.

keep coaching, i need it!
not even the link that says BOOK A SHOW AT PLANETARIUM? it IS hard to read, like everything else I'm an amateur web designer. that website has always had an identity crisis though its true, this hobby has too many facets! Im trying to create sweeping blog entries now summarizing each facet of it with pictures in the margins - its a story that is hard to tell because it has roots in so many areas. i've ordered a dvd series to help me put a show or two together so maybe that will help me raise the level of 'show' on the site. hobby vs public ...

Where does it say BOOK A SHOW AT PLANETARIUM? I can't find it. Also I love all of the pictures but they could be a turn off for anyone visiting the site as very few people know what they are. I would add a line or two under each one to explain. Something like, "A family enjoys an early evening visit to the planetarium". Or, "A third attempt at dome building gets it right". Also I don't think "hobby vs. public" gets it right. The more I think about it the "Planetarian" got it right with "professional vs amateur" By definition, a professional gets paid for the work (but is not necessarily better at it). Perhaps our group are "professional amateurs" but I digress. I think you need something very near the top that says something like, "Have you ever wondered about the stars at night? Well, your not alone. Book a show with your family, friends, or group and open up the fascinating world of astronomy. Call 123-456-7890 or email for more information". What you have at www.planetariumsathome.com/home is more like it but I have no idea that it will get me to that information page. The web site you listed below without the "/home" does not mention anything about shows. You need to have a line at the top that says "Shows available" but then links to www.planetariumsathome.com/home to get people to the proper place. Also with so many different places to go there is no concentration point to collect people.

yeah some of that cleaning can pay off, I'm into all these efficiency scans etc, sometimes they are more fun than actual content on the web! i ran a duplicate file detector the other day and it cleared off thousands of megabytes of data where I had somehow duplicated pictures

Posted by: Ron Walker Jan 8 2015, 10:28 AM I have a program called "Spotmau" that is intended to clean all kind of things. I note now that it doesn't clean out any history. I guess I need to just junk all of that.

Posted by: Ron Walker Apr 15 2015, 03:00 PM I've done nothing either. Everything so far is based on the word of mouth of people that have come before. My next show is a week and a half away and I have twelve RSVP's so far. It is interesting that the bulk of seat requests come from people in the last week before the show. I have been asked if my email could be forwarded to two other people (yes, by all means) and could someone bring two extra people ( again, yes of course).
Now I have this person who has taken some pictures of me and now wants to do a complete photo essay of me in the planetarium. The image was very well received by both his instructor as well as his class mates and it appears several found the idea of a planetarium very interesting and they might attend as well. He asked me if it was all right to post the pictures or even do an article for newspapers and/or magazines and I said sure. Again this has all been generated by simple "word of mouth" and it will be interesting where it goes.
I will upload them for you to see as soon as I can upload pictures once again. I'm wondering, can any of you upload pictures or is it a general block for whatever reason.

Posted by: Ron Walker Apr 16 2015, 11:50 AM Very good advice. I guess the crazy part is that after just about a year of doing this, I actually want to give more shows a month rather then less.
SUPER CRAZY I AM!!!

Posted by: Ron Walker Aug 3 2015, 05:49 PM Well, I'm beginning to wonder if the bloom is off the rose (or is it blush) or perhaps the "inevitable doldrums" have finally settled in. Any way you look at it attendance is down, way down. While it used to be five people at a lite show, there are now one or two. Great shows of fifteen to twenty are down to five or six. The populous has finally discovered that I "suck" at this. But wait, a home school group that I thought wasn't interested is now excited and has a number of people coming...twenty-five or more. Another first time person has something to do with the boy scouts and was interested in a show. The last was interest from a local catholic grade school. Who knows, perhaps just a summer slow down. I feel better already.
I can't imagine a dome with a Zeiss VI and 350 seats with only one person...I guess you just can't take this stuff personal.
