Posted by: Ron Walker Dec 31 2018, 11:33 AM Hi, Scott, sorry but last weeks posts seemed to have evaporated in the Cloud or wherever. Could you please repost the pictures and other discussion that was lost, if you can remember what was lost, as your thread is most interesting and I would hate to have gaps. It was the stuff where you re set up in the large metal building and painted and all that.

Posted by: Scott T Jan 14 2019, 01:22 PM Hi - sorry it has taken a while to re-post. I am afraid I was not able to post as we went along through December as we really were immensely busy with full time work and setting up/ running the planetarium. Here are the updates. Since the last post we transported the sections back to the Bridge Church. After an experiment with wood filler we used Ron’s suggestion of cloth tape to smooth over the gaps in the foamex covering. Here are a couple of pictures - one of the gores laid out (looking a bit like the Thames flood barrier) and the base ring. If you look closely you can see a couple of chairs to give a sense of scale. In the end 20 chairs were arranged around the circumference leaving a comfortable wide gangway around the central projector and enough room for the auxiliary table and entrance. The next picture shows Phil and the position of the dome at the back of the Church.

Posted by: Scott T Jan 14 2019, 01:25 PM More pictures – construction required a small scaffold tower. One of these pictures shows the ‘bird table’ support for the gores before they become self supporting. Two of the foamex panels had to come off so that we could get access to the bolts to secure the last section in place.

Posted by: Scott T Jan 14 2019, 01:51 PM Finally a new post. First picture is the projector/ collection of projectors. In the foreground is the main 'artistic' projector - 5 box like projectors of the salt etched plate variety and one of two sega homestar projectors for a milky way effect. You can also see the digital set up based on the L'Houmeau Sky System. In the background are two boxy security light projectors - one is a hacked RGB security light for the star of Bethlehem itself and the other is the angel projector. Both are mounted on an old car jack. A couple of pictures of the horizon and the sunset in action. More trees drawn by Emma. I am a big fan of old fashioned silhouettes around the springline. This time Emma hid a number of animals in the forest - a fox, squirrel, bat and three owls. I have to admit, spotting the animals seemed to be the favourite part of the show for some of the children (and adults). The sunset was effect was produced by 2 x 5m strips of alitove RGB LED set around most of the circumference of the dome. The lights are programmed with a 'heat index' colour pallette and fade from through sunset colours from yellow/red orange to purple and blue before fading to black - in time to Tchiakovsky's hymn of the Cherubim.

Posted by: Scott T Jan 14 2019, 02:00 PM A fairly poor picture of the 'artistic' star field - the phantom circle you can see in the photo was from a small light leak - not noticeable during the evening performances. Two photos of the LSS style digital projections (using Stellarium). Although I prefer the 'romance' of analogue projectors I have to admit I was surprised how well the digital projector worked and it added a lot to the shows.
