I guess the same could be said for the Spitz design from the A3P forward. They run a circle on a circle as well.

The other motors are either inside the middle part of the machine (hour circle and precession) or inside the base (polar height, with a long arbor going up inside one of the posts) When the machine is open it is like clockwork, some of the parts look pretty thin and fragile. The larger motors have been changed for modern servo types. The machine is noiseless when running. Zkp 1 is more like an old Singer sewing machine.
I, too, am surprised at the fact some of my posts here are 11 years old....we opened the planetarium in 2014 and were up and running with the ZKP 1 for all these years. The ZKP 2 only came along in December of 2020.. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAMS!
Albert
Don't feel too bad. I have just been DREAMING of doing something since 2008. Collected lots of wonderful things with NO place to set them up. mm

There is that first step you can take. It will revitalize you I'm positive.

Sorry, I just had to enhance for more details. HEY, HEY HEY! LOTS of new pictures to ponder. Seems you with Ron's advice have mastered the posting of pictures to this site. If I would stop being so cheap and buy a newer phone whereby I can load pictures off the phone onto the computer and/or directly from a "smartER" phone I could show some things. Otherwise, back to the digital camera that can upload to a computer through USB cable. But with only things stored and boxed, well, not much of interest to see. mm

Posted by: moonmagic Apr 21 2021, 03:15 PM QUOTE(Ron Walker @ Mar 22 2021, 11:27 AM) * Should work like this:
Choose File should open access to your computer. From the files there choose a picture and open it. It should appear right after Choose File. Then press the green box UPLOAD. After a bit it will appear under Attachments to the far left. You will see "Manage Current Attachments (1) and press the down arrow and find your picture. Press the first box with the green + and your picture should come up where your curser is located.
If the image is overly large, the site will reduce the size and ask if the viewer wants to see it in full size. I usually reduce the size to a 600 pixel width so I can upload several pictures in one post. If you like, you can email me the pictures and I will reduce them and either post them or send them back to you for you to post. I would probably want to view the full image anyway to get a true understanding as to how the gearing works.
After adjustment. Now see here Ron. Do you think I could let these posts with the picture with what appears as a crab? on your face go without some comment? Of course NOT! So was this a whim of the moment idea or is there a meaning of a more hidden nature? mm

You could do a box at a time.

RW - SEE what you started!
Even a box at a time is a year or more worth of work on a weekly basis.
I should hold off until there is some place to do these things. Unpacking and repacking really accomplishes nothing. (I know you think it would keep my interests going, but I want to be able to have surface table work space and shelves to put things on before I start unpacking boxes. In just one former bedroom in this house I have 50+ boxes of planetarium related things. (Remember, I have had the pleasure earlier in life of working with many of these things as a part of my daily routine, albeit that was over 35 years ago).
MEANWHILE, I did go online to get as much information about the cost of building materials, especially steel and wood. What an EYE OPENER that was!
Since I had not bought any building materials since April of last year, I was not aware of what has happened.
In some cases, a 200% increase: and this past weekend learned of the same situation with tires due to rubber shortages. I checked at my local box stores and I stopped looking once I saw the cheapest price I could find on 8' 2"x4"'s. $7.35 for spruce. They had more yellow pine than spruce on hand at this moment, but I hate working with it for framing. (Gosh - I said that just like the days when "I" was going to be doing any real work!)
I purchased about $3.5K worth of building materials (mostly wood for framing and roofing) for another project last April which is stored in a dry garage belonging to the friend where (WE) were going to complete a project long ago started, but the COVID-19 issue caused me not to have workers to complete that project (that has lingered for the last 6+ years).
Should I be fortunate enough to find a concrete contractor that will sign off on covering over the former pool area, I may opt to use some of that stored material for myself. Upon contractor approval, my first priority is to get a form set and foundation pored over the former pool area. Even though that area will not meet my full ultimate needs for space, it would allow me to get all this stuff out of my house and barn (and some from where I work) into one central place. That would give me a little work space too and a place to erect all the shelves I have, so many things COULD THEN come out of the boxes, I intend this storage building to be insulated and thus can be equipped with some form of HVAC. mm

Only you know what you can do. We just want to look in all of your boxes no matter how much work it is for you.

You were adding a reply to this recent post at the same time I was editing it. I always have to edit as I make SO MANY typing and spelling errors on my first attempt. mm

Sometimes I'm quick. They say the price will go down toward the end of the year, but I wonder.
