I would never have thought there would be such interest in building models of planetarium projectors and very few have been made. I must admit that I have always had a secret desire to make a model of the original Zeiss I grew up with and now it looks like this might happen. Also I can see the 3D printer making full scale projector parts to use in our working planetariums. The interest appears to be high so I think the subject deserves its own forum thread. Looking forward to what all of you have done.

I'm thinking of building this as a somewhat working model. That is one that lights up and perhaps is motorized. Grand thoughts I know but what the heck. I'm also wondering is the star balls can be drilled to actually project basic constellations. Or does it need to be bigger, perhaps the star balls the size of Spitz Jr's.

I have misspent some of the Christmas break working on a Goto GE6S model. Having access to the original really helps make it accurate. This one is going to take quite a while - here are screen shots of the northern planetary cage. Not much printed yet.
