Happy Thanksgiving to all out in planetarium land. Did you remember to set your scales back ten lbs/kelos this morning.

Will be 70 F here today. This is why we put up with 110 F in the shade during the summer.
Merry Christmas to all (if I can still say that).

Not sure if it has made the news on your side of the pond but there is quite a lot of excitement here - Virgin Orbit will be launching the first satellites from UK soil using an air launch from Cosmic Girl a modified 747. It is a bit surreal. Take off in about 20 minutes from Newquay in Cornwall!

Hi Ron - Cosmic Girl took off and headed off to the launcher release point somewhere off the SouthWest coast of Ireland - stage 1 of the rocket fired and got it to 11000 mph and technically into space but there was "an anomaly" on the second stage which did not fire and the mission failed to reach orbit. Cosmic Girl returned to Newquay safely. I know it is not a spectacular programme compared to NASA and others but it was quite a bid deal for us in Cornwall- which despite its picture postcard reputation is actually a relatively deprived part of the UK with lots of agricultural and low paid seasonal work. Quite unusual for Cornwall to be so prominent in the news.
I hope it will ignite an interest in space and dare I hope in planetariums? Virgin Orbit said they are likely to try again by the end of the year.
