Susan is looking for some help in building a small planetarium in her garage at home and was looking for the old formula for making gores. Since so many here have made domes in so many ways, I thought we could all contribute and put her on the right path for the perfect dome for her. I will start with a few basic questions.
Dimensions of clear space available (footprint available for dome spring line)?
Hight from floor to ceiling or floor to rafters?
Will the dome be permanent or does it need to be removed between shows?

I found some stuff on messenger which I tend to forget about and never use. So I am bringing Susan's picture over here so all can join in. Since there are twelve rows of eight inch blocks we have a standard eight foot ceiling. Thus a ten foot diameter dome would work perfectly with a three foot spring line that most all can fit under. She has set up a small wire frame upon witch to attach the screen material. That answers my first two questions and it looks like the framework is somewhat permanent. The projector is a standard analog SkyLab so I would recommend a white screen. She plans on adding a Lhoumeau Sky-System projector at a later date. I know that everyone worries about reflections across the screen but the darker you make the screen the more light you need to project so I'm not convinced to use a darker screen. I am certainly no expert on this and would welcome other input. As to what material to use for a screen surface, everything from a fabric to poster board come to mind. The support wire might limit as it doesn't appear too strong...thoughts?

At one time we could get good conversations going about projects like this but it appears that is no longer the case. I'm wondering if the gore formula helped at all?
