Well I guess the inevitable doldrums have finally set in. Or the heat has addled my brain. In the past two months no one had come to one of my posted shows. I actually did not send out a listing for July because of the "why bother" set in. The fact that the temperature has been over 110 degrees for almost a month might have something to do with it hasn't crossed my mind. After all, this is not my first summer. So it must be me. But then I did have a couple of well received private groups so I guess I shouldn't give up hope entirely. Gare's dialog (on whatever posting place is active today) about stopping the addition of new equipment to one's planetarium project hit at an appropriate time to set the doldrums in inevitably.
So after walking around for a few hours wondering about my self worth, I decided to check on my non existent emails. What I found was my newsletter from IPS which contained the results of a questionnaire sent out on how the Covid 19 effected their operation. A whopping 95% temporarily closed and 4% closed for good. Even now at the end of the Covid 19, only 22% have reopened and some are thinking of closing again. Of the 78% that are still closed, many have no opening date. However, if you are not open, no one will come. Perhaps this is a good excuse for the powers that be to close planetariums forever. I guess I need to send out my August email.
As I digest this material, I'm guessing that perhaps my poor response to shows is not jest me but the world out there. People are still afraid to go out and if they do they are starting at movie theaters. Perhaps with the strike theaters will all close and people will look to planetariums for their entertainment.
