Here is a close up of the little universal joint - there is a protective sleeve (removed) which screws on to protect I assume to stop fingers getting caught up in it.

Last weekend's job was to 3D print a couple of connector pieces so that I could attach a little stepper motor onto the projector. The motor is small and light enough to use the existing 'finger guard' sleeve as a support. The photo shows the motor, the two 3D printed connector pieces in the middle and the original screw on finger guard on the right.

I think it is a reasonably elegant solution to the missing motor and does not require any irreversible modification to the projector.

The electrical connector has 14 pins and assuming the design did not change much post-war it would have been a 1930s vintage design. I have been unable to find a candidate socket to fit on it so have had to resort to DIY methods.

Until I find a suitable 'original' socket I have resorted to my trusty friend Fusion 360. The idea is to use a 7 core wire (not all the pins are used as far as I can make out). The holes will hold copper tube offcuts firmly in place against the slightly springy connectors on the socket.
