Posted by: moonmagic Nov 2 2016, 07:13 AM WOW! I am very impressed with what you have done.
I also found the temporary dome structure very interesting.
I wish you continued success. mm

Posted by: Ron Walker Nov 2 2016, 10:52 AM Yes, this is more experimenting that I must get back too. Just wondering how much light I will need to fill a thirty foot dome.

Posted by: zemt Nov 2 2016, 01:08 PM For Ron,
i have seen a LSS projector in work on a 8m Spitz dome in Strasbourg (France). The beamer is Barco F50 (5000 lumens), and 1600p ... a jewel smile.gif the dome is perforated, so it absorbs some light, but it's still bright Yves

I like hearing that! OK, back to experimenting next week. Not heard of a 1600p projector but perhaps that is a European model. Barco's tend to be a bit pricey but worth looking into. Thanks for the info.

Not heard of a 1600p projector but perhaps that is a European model. Barco's tend to be a bit pricey but worth looking into. Thanks for the info. I installed a 3600 lumen projector in a 24 ft dome with good results, but I think you need more for a 30 ft dome. It's been said that the contrast is more important than the intensity, considering that your eyes can adjust to very dim levels.
I have three LSS systems running right now. One at Hopkins Planetarium, one at the Children's Natural History Museum, and one in my 9ft home dome. Two of the projectors are 1920 by 1200 pixel, and they perform very well, and noticably better than 1920 by 1080. The more you spend the better the projection gets, but even my 1920 by 1080 does a good job. The audiences look past the imperfections, especially the kids. The content of the presentation means more to them.
And, yes, you can still get gasps from the audience, even when they see a pixelated sky.

Posted by: Ken Miller Dec 4 2017, 11:46 AM If anybody else is using the LSS design in North America, I would like to know. I feel like the Lone Ranger. I think it is a great system, especially for education, but I don't hear about anybody else that is using it. It is a bit of work to set up, but the rewards are tremendous. I communicate with the guys in France who developed develop the optics and the software, and we've solved a few problems with getting it to work well, and especially making it more English language friendly.

It's been a while, any new info to add to this.
