A colleague of mine who is well aware of our collective obsession is on holiday in Japan at the moment. They visited the Minato Science Museum in Tokyo and very kindly sent me back some photos of the projector. It is a GOTO Orpheus - what an imposing object! They said that listening to a star show with a very softly spoken Japanese commentary was incredibly relaxing. Dan Audebon's database says the Orpheus is the only projector that can display constellation art for all 88 constellations. I guess it is obvious but looking at Dan's database map it just occurred to me how well served Japan is in terms of numbers of planetariums.
