Just got a 3 liner email from Moon last night, he said his email had been out 'a few weeks', ok .... but he lives so that's fantastic, hope he can make it back if he is able.
In other news, I cancelled the substack AND the libsyn for now. The stack was disappointing, and the libsyn saw the 125 episode farce and the 29 episode establishment of the lobby planetarium here, so those were both milestones. Will be scheduling some mini-trips but will try to stay up to date a bit here and on FB.
Keep the cult alive!

More like a Cabal. rw, you are a goldmine of title ideas! the star cabal ... there are actually two meanings to the word The term cabal originates from the word kabbalah, the Jewish mystical interpretation of the Hebrew Bible. Its sinister use was popularized in A Child's History of England by Charles Dickens when it was used as an acronym for five English government ministers during the reign of King Charles II. I'm guessing you think our tiny band is more like a Bible Study Group, amiright lol

"The Star Cabal", or, "The Star Projector's Cabal". cabal 1 of 2 noun ca·bal kə-ˈbäl -ˈbal Synonyms of cabal 1 : the contrived schemes of a group of persons secretly united in a plot (as to overturn a government) also : a group engaged in such schemes 2 : CLUB, GROUP a cabal of artists cabal 2 of 2 verb caballed; caballing intransitive verb : to unite in or form a cabal

Well after that last one, we went after all to the later show, I hate staying up past my bedtime.
It was more like a Disney Ride than a movie. Endless chase scenes. A Kid flying an airplane. Good references back to previous movies, the toppling statues is recreated, the bugs in Temple of Doom, the cave from 3, the museum quotes. They actually list the Muses, but they got the order wrong I thought! Boats, parades, trains, airplanes, time warps, motocycles, electric carts, it was so loud we were wishing for ear plugs. The theater was freezing, we hadnt been to a movie in 3 years. The nazi's were heavy handed though, brutally shooting people. The AI version of Ford was believable I thought. Marion at the end was touching, so it ended emotionally and I liked that. No aliens thank you. The music was back. the hat and whip of course. But no humor, no banter - all the lines seemed to fall flat. the final time travel scene was ... i don't know, a bit contrived even for a fantasy like this. I'd give it a C plus, but it could have been edited. I got tired of the same heavies chasing and catching them OVER and OVER and OVER!
Favorite line was 'its not what you believe, its how hard you believe it'

and did it avoid the fundamental plot flaw in Raiders of the Lost Ark that Amy Farrah-Fowler pointed out to Sheldon Cooper in Big Bang Theory?

No I didn't like it, it was strangely joyless for some reason. The Big Bang theory I had to look up, but yes Duke, the Nazi's wouldve opened the ark and destroyed themselves without Indy. I thought though that they only took it to the island because thats where they recovered it. Like the lance in yesterdays movie (a first relic but fake), the original plan had been to take relics directly to Hitler. I miss my characters again so may be starting another little podcast. I don't blame you if you groan, i dont expect anything and understand totally if you are sick of that stuff! i just miss them, they're part of my family now lol. i think i'm a member of their cult. Will probably stick with Urania's voice but swap her name badge, something like that. maybe do more history though than just dumb comedy, in keeping with yesterday's Indy movie - the movie yesterday did reserve the place of honor to Clio, the Muse of History. that was a nice touch. I think I'll go with Polly though, she has a more eccentric list of specialties. here's a prototype website, i had to go back to buzzsprout. acultofpolyhymnia.buzzsprout.com/or try A CULT OF POLYHYMNIA

The basic difference between this one and the others was the director. Spielberg does make a difference.
I thought they took it to the island to make sure it worked and how they could control it before taking it before Hitler. Remember that when they first opened it they thought it was just full of sand and started laughing. They did however have cameras to record if anything did happen.

I think you're right, they were 'testing' it. By the way, mr 'bad dates' is in the current one, I don't know if you heard - what's his name, rhys-davies?
I personally don't think the entire series has aged that well, past the first one that is. Temple of Doom was dark, had human sacrifice, and very few memorable lines (we are going to DIE is all I can remember), Last Crusade had a massive gimmick and gift in Sean Connery, so it was memorable but still relied on contrivances, they rode into the sunset and that in itself should have been the end. but nooooo. Who really wanted to see Ford as an old man? Nobody!
Star Wars is even worse and Lucas DID come back but had lost the magic. thank the lord they never followed up Beetlejuice!
