I received this email from ALBERT MALY-MOTTA who you may or may not know is the builder curator of the Bad Toelz Planetarium. It was this communication that "pushed me over the edge" in starting anew.
It came as a great shock to me only a week or so ago when I wanted to post a new story to OSC. I found a “black hole” where my beloved web site was. Now on the new issue of the Planetarian which only reached me today, you detail what has happened.
My only hope is that the database- all these thousands of posts, of personal histories and inspiring trajectories- is not completely gone!
Is there still a record of the website as it was? It would be invaluable to me and others for reference purposes, even if it is not updated anymore. It would be a tremendous loss to me and others if it were completely gone. Without OSC, there would be no Bad Toelz planetarium today. It was such an inspiration.
The fact that only a few people came to your facebook pages does not mean anything- who knew about this? and personally I dislkike Facebook so much I would not register for posting there. Why was there no note on the old web site?
What I wanted to post was this- my Dutch/German friend Romke Schievink has done it again!
He has saved this “Baby Zeiss” 1015 projector at the Dwingeloo planetarium in Holland, where it has rusted since 2014-
another candidate for the scrap heap.
The machine is still in fine shape but the console is a wreck - the electronics have collapsed.
they plan to make new electronics for it so that it can be controlled with a tablet or even a smart phone. No dome for it yet. None of the 1015 projectors is still in use- they had them in Munich, Augsburg, Laupheim in Germany. I believe only seven have been made of this model.
