Posted by: Ron Walker May 27 2014, 03:10 PM It has been a long time coming but now time is getting short. I need to add something that has nothing to do with planetaria but will be useful during a show. When I put in my home theater we added this. In the twelve years it has been operating it has paid for itself four times and saved many a back pain for not having to carry all of those bottles. Now with the planetarium I again needed to add something special. What do you think??? I think the grand opening will be grand indeed!

Posted by: 58limited May 27 2014, 04:14 PM Looks great! I would also put a soda dispenser in the planetarium, and a beer dispenser in the theater.
I'm a homebrewer and I have a 1982 Frigidaire that I converted to a keggerator - it holds five 5 gallon Cornelius (soda pop) kegs of beer, 5 taps on the door and frosty mugs in the freezer.

Posted by: mrgare5050 May 28 2014, 04:43 AM I was thinking balloons, but they would get in the way of the stars ... but they might serve as an expanding universe model too! i was thinking about those drinks and remembering barn parties and their massive cleanups - are you going to allow smoking in there? why not i suppose, although star obstruction might again come into play. gare, thinking crazy thoughts

I don't allow smoking anywhere, certainly not in the new building! I can't handle the stale smoke smell.

Im with you on that. Im not nitpicking, Im just thinking out loud all the things ive obsessed about. Exit sign? Is there any emergency way out if the door collapses? probably not, i dont have one either. bathroom contingency plans . i have mixed feelings with the public coming to my house. still got school bus ruts in the front yard - parking? places to turnaround. the public opens a huge pandora's box of what ifs.

I hear you. Exit signs really don't matter as my doors open inward which is a no-no on a public building. I did find some emergency LED lights so if the power goes out for any reason they will come on. Since anyone inside the dome would be dark adapted anyway there would be plenty of light to see to the doors. I also agree on the bathroom problem. Sooner or later there will be people wanting to use the bathroom. I was thinking of a porta potty just outside but then a light trap door is required. No, I made this for me and I really don't want it to become a job. It will always remain a private entity by invitation only. Small groups like scouts and home schoolers is about as big as I want to get.

I came to exactly the same conclusion! inviting the public into private dreams is perilous but manageable

Posted by: Ron Walker Jun 8 2014, 03:50 PM I'm ready. I could give the show right now if I had too. Good to be here considering that there is less then one week to the grand opening/unveiling. There are still a lot of things that need to be tweaked and finished up, but then there will always be a lot of things that need to be tweaked and finished up. I would like a brighter Moon and a few more constellation outline projectors. Perhaps comet and aurora ones as well and how about a giant tumbling asteroid like the one that just went by. On the last day I will cover all of the electrical slip rings just to protect the innards from prying fingers. I must admit however that no one has even tried to touch the projector at all, yet. Still endless clean up chores outside and inside that need to happen as well as a bunch more projectors need to be made operational. This is really getting to be fun!

I'll pass on something Dick Emmons said to me when we met in Cleveland that one time. I'm holding onto this forever, but it belongs to you, and anyone who sees this through ...
well Ron, you certainly took the ball and ran with it!
