Posted by: Ron Walker Feb 1 2012, 06:31 PM QUOTE(moonmagic @ Feb 1 2012, 03:41 PM) * This is no doubt about that...it is saving you a whole bunch of dollars, and it is good that you have some extra help too. Normally it works that way with good neighbors and friends. You help them when they have a big project and they return the favor when you are working on one. Your weather there seems to have held for a while.
What kind of lead time does the company require before you will get your "kit" sections?
Don't forget to pace yourself. I sometimes make the mistake of thinking that I am still 30 years old only to pay the price in the number of days I need for recovery. This is even more pronounced as I carry around another human being with me at all times...now mind you I'm not overweight, but the other guy on my shoulders is quite a porker! {Small planets are beginning to orbit here...} mm
The kit people say 30 to 90 days depending on demand. I got the impression that it would be closer to 30. That would be ideal as once the area is leveled which is taking more time because we are not professionals at this but are both perfectionists. We have been having beautiful weather so I would like to get the footer and stem in before any rain. It might be possible to get the slab in as well, then it can rain all it wants. That will help in the curing process as well.
I understand the 30 year old thing as my mind works the same way. I have also eaten my way through more food then I deserve and it holds on tight. I do pace by only working for four to six hours a day. Other things still need to be done so they tend to slow me down a bit. It is still unbelievable that this project is actually happening.

Posted by: moonmagic Feb 1 2012, 07:51 PM It IS happening mainly because you never lost sight of your dream.
Even when others perhaps only saw haze or blur, you always had a vision that was in sharp focus.
I recall the old Chinese (I think) proverb...something like "The longest journey begins with a single step." For me sometimes the journey begins with a dream, followed by the single step.
You are now transforming your dream into reality. We now are seeing what you imagined all along.
There are many tools used to build but perhaps none more powerful than imagination, enthusiasm and inspiration.
Just as a sport teams needs its cheering section every dream, no matter how big or small, needs its supporters too. From a distance that is the best we can do from here. Game ON Ron! mm

The "Dream" is indeed one's most powerful ally. The journey began with that single step some time ago and is like walking uphill on a sand dune. For every two steps forward I slid back one. I'm sure that many who peruse this site probably thought my rants were more "male cow deposits" then reality. Heck, there were times I thought that too. But to accomplish anything one must ignore the "pain" and move forward. Sometimes at a snails pace (much of the time) and sometimes at a walk (I don't run, never did) but always forward.
I do so much appreciate all of you out there that understand what I'm trying to do and why. Sometimes I'm not sure myself, but the positive feedback has kept me going when more sane reasoning (not necessarily correct) would have said stop. I wonder why I always tend to take on such large projects, almost commercial scale, but then, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well.
I also appreciate those that view but never seem to post. There are a substantial number of views and I can only hope to provide all of you with inspiration to allow you to follow your dream as I am following mine.
Anyway, cheer on mm cheer on, I'm ready to win the game.

The average house is about 300 feet away. One a little closer about 250 feet but most 300 to 400 feet. There are dogs to the east but only bark when I approach that property line. Then a happy greeting tends to shot them up. There are some lights directly north of me on a garage floor to try and keep rats out of car engine compartments. They are there but not terribly bad. A short wall will easily block them from view. Anyway, once the OB is built, the dome will block them out and if I want to do a lot of northern observation, I can easily place a short wall at the proper place on the property line to block them out.

Posted by: moonmagic Feb 4 2012, 11:11 AM The pixs are VERY nice Ron. Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from someone in your field.
A little bit done every day is a good plan. Wish I could saw that I was "living" by such a plan.
I am TRYING to motivate myself to spend some time in my "equipment storage room" today (Saturday) to ATTEMPT some organization. The problem begins that there is SO MUCH STUFF in this one room that I have to take half of it out into a lobby area just to be able to work.
You know the old Chinese puzzle thing. I just told someone else that I think I have the energy to start the project, but wonder if I have enough "steam" to get in all put back inside by days end. You see where I store things adjoins someone elses business lobby space, so I can't just leave all the mess out overnight!
It's already after 1:00 PM here and I've not made it there yet. Tick.....tick.....tick......mm
Perhaps if I unglue myself from this internet thing?

Not too bad at all - I find really my biggest enemy is my own yard light, but its too high to shield. I've thought about asking the power company to make it switchable, but they'd probably laugh...

Posted by: moonmagic Feb 14 2012, 01:21 PM Gare- Sadly, I do. As I've said before, I am "undertall" and so is my storage room! You would think that a 10' high ceiling would be high enough, but 12-14' would be EVEN better. Best would be a 25' ceiling with a 30' dome underneath. But NO lottery money yet...mm

Posted by: Ron Walker Feb 18 2012, 06:50 PM Well, it has been a long hard struggle to get the ground fairly level, at least level enough to continue with the project. It is now time to lay out the ten sided building and get some kind of an idea of how big this thing will finally be. The camera perspective tends to make the ten foot sections close to the camera look much larger then the ones in the back but I can assure you that they are all even and according to plan. I can remember back from my other building projects that buildings always looked smaller at this stage and that he walls had to start going up before things started to look full size. I was afraid at first that a 30 foot dome would look kind of small but even with just this layout I am very happy with the size. I know that I will be spending a lot of fun time in this building once it is finished. Another view looking toward the house. Note how much dirt is cut out.

Posted by: Ron Walker Feb 18 2012, 06:55 PM It never ceases to amaze me how much land tilts from the level. What appeared to be a gentle slope is a drop of close to three feet. On the southwest side of the building the pad is level with the natural ground.
