As kids, my brother and I lived in an insulated, but unfinished, attic whose roof was primarily "A" shaped. Rolls of insulation were stapled to 16" c-c joists and bridging horizontal beams about 2' below the apex.
As our beds were beneath these "walls" and ceiling, it was a obviously place to make static, unchangeable, starfields by stapling many 2' x 3' black posterboards in front of the insulation and then painting stars (dots) onto those panels with fluorescent paint and use a black light to illuminate them.
Later, having read the 1976(?) Sky and Telescope article on the legendary star cylinder of Steven B. Smith, I made a small (12") cylinder and then a better, 16" cylinder to replace the painted dots. Some tinkerers build a close facsimile of the B9 robot as seen in Tv's "Lost in Space" show. I did this.

Is this CM from Iowa? I didn't know he did a 12 inch cylinder before his 16 inch. I need a picture of that too for my 'Cylinders on Parade' illustrated guide, now scheduled for 2025 or so.

Yeah, I built two versions. And yes, Gare, I'm back. Need to unmothball my projector... looking into finding a location for a dome
